FAQs
Do your air purifiers cure allergies?
Our HOCl and plasma technologies reduce the number of allergens in a space, providing you with cleaner air to breath, however it is not a cure for allergies or asthma.
How good are your air purifiers?
DH Lifelabs offers two highly effective lines of air purification products, one that focuses on active air purification and another on dry air purification and natural deodorization. That means they do more than devices with filters alone. Aaira (HOCl Technology) creates a powerful solution from all-natural ingredients (non-iodized salt and water) that is dispersed into the room to eliminate bacteria, mold, and viruses in the air. It also reduces stubborn odors, leaving a fresh and clean scent. Sciaire (PlasmaShield Technology) mimics air ionization found in nature. PlasmaShield emitters create negative and positive ions that are sent into the room to attack and eliminate bacteria and viruses on contact. They are also paired with a filter that removes airborne pollutants and allergens for dual protection.
How often will I need to change the filter?
Depending on the filter, we recommend replacement at 6 or 12 months. DH Lifelabs air purifiers will alert you when filters need to be changed. This saves you money and allows the filters to work more efficiently.
How do I replace the filter?
Please refer to your Instruction Manual. A downloadable version is available in the Support section.
Can I leave the air purifier on all day?
Yes, by leaving your unit running it will continuously be drawing in the room air and filtering out the impurities.
Where is the best place to put my air purifier?
Place your air purifier where it has the best air flow, approximately 1 to 3 feet away from the walls and furniture at minimum. Place your device where you spend the most time (such as your living room or bedroom), or where you have the most concern about odors or allergens (for example the kitchen where you cook or where your pets are).
What size air purifier should I buy?
Check the certified room size information on the box but consider purchasing an air purifier that will effectively clean a larger area than the one you are going to use it in, this will help the air purifier clean the air faster and more often.
Should I sleep with the air purifier on?
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) recommends an air purifier during bedtime to promote better breathing while you sleep. If your air purifier has a sleep mode, the fan will continue to run at an ultra-low speed for silence and the blue light inside the tank will turn off.
Is there any UV light in the Aaira or Sciaire product lines?
No, Aaira and Sciaire products do not have UV lights.
How do I reach Customer Service?
Customer service can be reached M-F, 9 am to 6 pm CT, by phone at 877-548-9722 or via email at: HelpUS@dhlifelabs.com
How do I know the air purifier is working?
Truthfully, it will take a little time before you notice less dust in your space, but our air purifiers change the air 4.8x an hour killing germs, viruses, bacteria and removing dust, pollen, and pet dander to improve the air in the space you breathe.
What level of microns does the Aaira + Humidifier filter down to?
Our Aaira + Humidifier pre-filter traps larger particles, >PM2.5, like pet hair, sand, and dust.
I see a P65 warning label on this product regarding lead, which obviously is concerning given that we want to use this in sensitive areas to purify air. Can I get more detail on why the label is there and where lead comes into play with regards to this product?
There is lead in the power cord (all power cords contain some lead) and with California Prop 65 we must have the warning even if it is trace amounts.
I'm having a hard time with the cord where it attaches to the machine. Unless I position it very carefully (kind of propping it up) it falls out, and even once I have it just right if it is even slightly bumped it falls out. Is this intentional or is there something wrong with my cord or machine?
The power cord should not fall out or be loose in any way. Please contact Customer Service at 877-548-9722 or helpUS@dhlifelabs.com so we can address your concern. Your satisfaction is important so please contact us by email and we’ll work to resolve your issue.
Is your purifier effective at eliminating mold particles from the air?
The DH Lifelabs air purifiers remove up to 99.9% of airborne pollutants, including mold, as well as dust, pollen, smoke, and pet dander with the help of a H13 True HEPA Filter that captures allergens as small as 0.3 microns. The H-13 True HEPA filter has a pre-filter, HEPA filter and activated carbon filter. Air purifiers will not remove mold but can help reduce the spread of airborne mold spores. Consult a professional if you suspect or have a mold issue in your home or workplace.
Does the warranty apply if bought on Amazon and not on the official store website?
The 2-year limited warranty applies regardless of if it was purchased from Amazon or through the DH Lifelabs website.
What is the warranty on DH Lifelabs products?
Equipment manufactured by DH Lifelabs is warranted by DHLL to be free from defects in workmanship or materials. Our warranties vary based on the product. Please see specific product pages in this website for warranty periods. They range from 3-5 years.
How do I register my products?
What is the life span of DHLL equipment?
DHLL equipment is designed to last over 15 years which is longer than the typical HVAC equipment it is installed within.
Is your product UL certified?
Our technology complies with UL 867 and UL 2998. Having UL2998 certification means we produce “zero ozone”.
What is an Air Purifier?
An air purifier is an electronic appliance, used in homes and businesses, to increase and improve overall indoor air quality.
Why use an Air Purifier to improve indoor air quality (IAQ)?
The EPA talks about controlling pollutants and reducing risks in homes and the workplace - Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, concerning the health and comfort of its occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns.
There are locations or times of the year where outdoor air is dirtier than indoor air. The EPA lists the air cleaner as an important and effective line of defense for improving air quality.
Proper air filtration is an effective method of reducing certain wildfire smoke pollutants indoors and potentially limiting the risk of negative health impacts associated with exposure to wildfire smoke.
How does an Air Purifier work?
Air purifiers draw in the air from a given space (kitchen, bedroom, family room) through an intake in the unit.
The air passes through the filter system(s) (Pre-filter, HEPA, True HEPA, Cold Evaporation, Charcoal), it is scrubbed clean, and released back into the room as clean, purified air.
What is CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate)?
The Clean Air Delivery Rate measures the cleaning speed of the air purifier for removing smoke, dust, and pollen.
It is given in three measurements: one for pollen, one for tobacco smoke and one for dust.
The higher the CADR number the faster the unit filters the air.
The term ‘clean’ means ‘filtered air,’ and it does not guarantee filtration quality.
Air Purifier efficiency = CADR ratings; Air Purifier effectiveness = Filter types.
How do I know the product is working/doing what it says it does?
Since air purifiers clean air to an almost microscopic level, it is quite normal to doubt if the machine is genuinely operating the way it should. Here are ways to check if your air purifier is working:
(1) check the unit’s airflow, a working air purifier presents clear, consistent airflow (easily determined by placing your hand over the system)
(2) you should smell a difference in the air quality, a slight chlorine-like scent
(3) use the filter test, this means to look at the internal filters that come with the device. A dirty filter is a sign that the system is working, meaning air is entering the device and the filter is capturing pollutants before air leaves the device.
What is the difference between Cleaning, Disinfecting, Sanitizing and Sterilizing?
Cleaning removes dirt, dust, crumbs, and germs from surfaces or objects. When you clean, you use soap (or detergent) and water to physically clean off the surfaces and objects. This does not kill the germs, but as germs were eliminated, fewer germs remain that could spread infection.
Disinfecting uses chemicals (disinfectants) to kill germs on surfaces and objects. Some common disinfectants are bleach and alcohol solutions. You usually need to leave the disinfectant on the surfaces and objects for a certain period to kill the germs. Disinfection eliminates many or all pathogenic microorganisms, except bacterial spores, on inanimate objects. Disinfecting does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs.
Sanitizing reduces or eliminates pathogenic agents, such as bacteria, on the surfaces of objects, lowering the number of germs to a safe level.
Sterilizing means to kill ALL microbes, whether harmful or not, and their spores on a surface or object."
Where is the best place to put the air purifier?
Place it near worst air pollutants (smoke, odor, mold source)
Put the air purifier 3-5 feet off the ground and approximately 12” from a wall.
Put it in places with highest airflow (doorways, walls, near window)
For maximum efficiency, move the air purifier around – it is portable for a reason!
You can increase the efficiency of the air purifier by up to 20% if you correctly place it. What is even more important, if you put it in a corner or behind a television, you can lose more than 50% of the overall air purifier capacity.
Just by moving it around, you can make a bigger difference in the effectiveness of an air purifier than placing it perfectly in a single room.
Do not place air purifier in a corner (low indoor airflow)
Do not put obstacles in air purifier vicinity (optimize airflow)
Avoid places with high humidity (bathroom, cooking area)
Do not put it near electronic devices (tv, stereo, microwave)
What is a 3-in-1 HEPA filter?
3-in-1 filtration refers to an air filter that combines multiple filtration technologies into a single filter:
The first stage is the pre-filter that captures larger particles such as dust, pet dander and hair, preventing them from passing through to the other filter layers.
The second stage is the Activated carbon filter that is effective at absorbing and reducing odors, smoke, harmful gases, and VOCs. It helps improve overall air quality and reduces unpleasant smells.
The third stage is the HEPA filter. The HEPA filter captures and traps extremely small particles such as allergens, mold spores, dust mites and fine particles like PM2.5. They are highly efficient and capable of removing over 99% of airborne particles 0.3 micron or larger.
Combining these three layers of filtration provides comprehensive air purification resulting in cleaner and healthier indoor air.
What type of pollutants does an air purifier capture?
Air purifiers can remove airborne particles like dust, smoke, pet dander, pollen, mold and mildew spores, bacteria, and viruses as small as:
0.3 microns. Here are some common household particles and their relative size: (One micron = 39 millionths of an inch)
0.3 - 1 micron = Tobacco Smoke, Bacteria, Metallic Fumes
1 - 5 microns = Bacteria and Small Dust Particles
5 - 10 microns = Mold, Pollen, Medium Dust Particles
10 microns = Large Dust Particles
25 microns = Debris and Dust Particles (visible to the naked eye)
150 microns = Human Hair
What size air purifier should I buy?
Check the certified room size information on the box but consider purchasing an air purifier that will effectively clean a larger area than the one you are going to use it in, this will help the air purifier clean the air faster and more often.
Can the air purifier pull air from other rooms or around the corner?
Air purifiers work best in the areas they are contained to and cannot pull air through walls, around corners, down hallways, or staircases to clean other spaces.
Can I run the air purifier all day?
Most air purifiers take 30 minutes to 2 hours to clean indoor air. Since air pollution is a pervasive and continuous problem, it is best to leave your air purifier on all day.
There are no perceived drawbacks to keeping your unit running all the time, and if the filter(s) is/are properly maintained it can help reduce pollutants in your home.
It is recommended to run your air purifier all the time (24/7) to keep indoor air clean and free of allergens.
If your air purifier has a sleep mode, the fan will continue to run at an ultra-low speed for silence.
What is VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds)?
Volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) are a group of chemicals that easily evaporate and have a “sweet” odor commonly associated with paints and glues. They are found in second-hand smoke, fuels, oils, automobile exhaust, industrial solvents, and a wide variety of consumer products. They can be found at low levels in homes and in the environment, including the air (indoor and outdoor), water, soil, dust, and food.
How loud are air purifiers?
An air purifier noise level depends on the size, type, quality, and brand. Larger air purifiers are usually louder but more powerful, while smaller ones are quieter and used in smaller spaces. The product specifications in the Instructions Manual of your unit will provide the decibels (dB(A)).
Do air purifiers remove mold?
Air purifiers will not remove mold but can help reduce the spread of airborne mold spores. Consult a professional if you suspect or have a mold issue in your home or workplace.
How do I get replacement parts for my air purifier?
You can order replacement parts directly from our website at www.dhlifelabs.com
How much does it cost to run the air purifier?
Running your air purifier does not cost too much, it is like running a standard house fan.
Will the air purifier remove odors?
Yes, the carbon filter helps eliminate unpleasant odors, so your indoor air remains fresh. Together, activated carbon and a HEPA filter can trap 99.97% of small particles 0.3 microns and higher as well as most larger particles, especially spores.
Are the units still considered air purifiers even if they do not have a HEPA filter?
Filters used to be the foundation of air purifiers’ performance. With advancements in technology, it is now possible for an air purifier to function effectively without the use of a filter. It applies other cleaning technology to get the job done.
Is there any UV light in the Aaira or Sciaire product lines?
Aaira and Sciaire products do not have UV lights.
Are DH Lifelabs products tested by an independent third party?
Yes, all DH Lifelabs products are tested by third-party labs under appropriate testing conditions.
What is the outdoor Air Quality Index (AQI) and what does each of the colors mean?
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is the system used to warn the public when air pollution is dangerous. The AQI is divided into six color code categories and advice is given to go along with it:
a. Green: Good. No advisories.
b. Yellow: Moderate. Unusually sensitive individuals should consider limiting outdoor exertion.
c. Orange: Unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children, active adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit outdoor exertion.
d. Red: Unhealthy. Children, active adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid outdoor exertion; all others should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
e. Purple: Very Unhealthy. Children, active adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid all outdoor exertion; all others should limit outdoor exertion.
f. Maroon: Hazardous. Everyone should avoid all physical activity outdoors.
What is the difference between air purifiers and sanitizers?
Sanitizers and purifiers both work to reduce the pollution in indoor air and improve its quality:
Sanitizers work better to kill bacteria, mold, and viruses,
Purifiers are usually more efficient at reducing dust and pollen particles in the air.
